The Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, London, NW3, UK Meptazinol is one of the new powerful opioid analgesic agents, and an oral formulation has recently been marketed. Clinically significant respiratory depression is said to be absent1 and no overdoses from meptazinol have been reported in the literature. We report a patient who had a respiratory arrest following an overdose of meptazinol.
