Applying hormesis in aging research and therapyDepartment of Molecular and Structural Biology, University of Aarhus, Gustav Wieds Vej 10C, DK-8000 Aarhus -C, Denmark Biology of aging is well understood at a descriptive level. Based on these data, biogerontological research is now able to develop various possibilities for intervention. A promising approach for the identification of gerontogenes and gerontogenic processes is through the hormetic effects of mild stress on slowing down aging. Although there are several issues remaining to be resolved, specially with regard to the notion of mild stress, application of hormesis in aging research and therapy is a powerful new approach.
